I have a 2000 ford explorer and when I left walmart last night the battery light was on and I had to use all my strength just to turn the wheel! I have never had this happen before. This morning the battery was dead and my husband tried to jump it and it wouldnt. It is no good. Can power steering not work because of a bad battery or what? Does anyone know what else could be wrong?

Its the serpantine belt. The repairs shouldn't be very expensive. Just go to a repair shop you trust. They'll probably replace the belt and perhaps a pully. The belt is simply rubber and if you go look into your engine you should be able to find a rubber belt attached to serveral different metal wheels that will be either on the front of the side (it will probably be black) if its missing or loose then you know that that's the problem. Chances are it is not the battery and the battery is doing perfectly fine still.

If you left the lights on for the longest time, the battery was completely drained, and many of your power functions use some electric power, although it runs on a different circuit independent of the main12 volts. CHange the battery. If you bought it in 2000 then it is about 6 yrs old. The average life expentancy of a battery is 5 or 6. Its time to replace it.

My friend and I were driving her Bronco and power steering and battery both died on us. The case also interfered with the belt. Which in your case is not the problem by the time we got it to the mechanic he told us that you have to put power steering liquid in it and go to autozone and get your battery supercharged and see if it's that.

The odds are that the belt that runs your power steering pump is the same one that runs your alternator and it has broken or come off

Sounds like serpentine belt has broken, come off or the belt tensioner has gone bad. The belt drives the alternator and p/s.

grew to become into the cylinder head rigidity examined and milled whilst the top gasket grew to become into replaced? My thought is which you purchased suckered into using a piss-poor mechanic, probable because of the fact of inexpensive expenses. he did a piss-poor interest on the top gasket and forgot to place your radiator cap lower back on. the two because of the fact of a loss of machining/rigidity attempting out on the top, a piss poor interest by using the mechanic, or the reality that your cap grew to become into lacking, the vehicle overheated lower back and blew your head gasket lower back. it would have been blown first of all whilst it grew to become into placed lower back together if the top wasn't machined and all of the right approaches weren't observed. the vehicle seems to calm down once you enable off the throttle because of the fact the coolant is low, and once you enable off the throttle the coolant stops flowing and the sensor has no longer something to verify, for this reason the Gauge comes down, in spite of the undeniable fact that, the engine remains warm, have confidence me. right here is what i could do. First, verify the oil. Is it milky or above the entire mark on the stick? whether that's, there is strike #a million for the top gasket. 2d, set up a clean cap and determine the gadget is thoroughly packed with a 50/50 blend of coolant and water. Run the engine till thoroughly heat (20 minutes or so) and then close it off and walk away. do no longer do away with the cap or verify the fluid. After a minimum of 5-6 hours of sitting, ideally in one day, do away with the spark plugs and attempt to polish a easy down in the cylinders. Is there liquid on appropriate of the pistons? Is there liquid on the plugs? Does it scent like antifreeze? If the answer to any of those questions is confident ... head gasket is leaking. Your different decision is to bypass to a save (no longer the single which left your cap off because of the fact they needless to say suck!) and have the top gasket examined. they're going to probable cost you for one hour exertions ($60-a hundred dollars based the place you reside), and assist you recognize for particular if the top gasket is leaking. My uncomplicated opinion is which you regrettably have been given bitten by using a bad mechanic. Leaving a radiator cap off is unacceptable. changing a head gasket while not having the top rigidity checked and machined is unacceptable. circumvent that save in any respect expenses sooner or later and make dispariging feedback approximately their ancestors to absolutely everyone who will hear.
