What does this mean?! This teacher must be in his forties, I'm 14.
What's going on? He did NOT say it in a fatherly or particulary concerned/reassuring way, or in a flippant joke-y way. It was in a voice that I can't really describe. It's driving me mad as I keep thinking about it. He said it in a hushed voice, as if to keep it secret, and he then moved closer to me, he must have been about two centimeters away. Help. I really don't know what this means?!
Thank you. x

He's not said it to anyone else, I've asked about 50 of my female friends who all deny that he has ever said anything like this to them.

It's not a regional thing, I just asked him wheter he knew where any pupils off a list I had were, so he replied " Well let's have a look then Darling". I'm sorry to appear paranoid - It's juts freaked me out! Thanks everyone for helping. x

Seems to me as though he is making advances to you. As well it can be just his way . Some men have soothing voices that can be misunderstood.
However , before you do anything stupid , like reporting him, look out for the signs again. If he persists then you can discuss it with a senior person in the school. Try talking to a guidance officer.

You are making a big thing of this and risking someone's career. I am the first to defend someone in your position and if he makes any other remarks you must bringing it up to your guidance teacher or parents. Do you think he is going to try and make such a pass in a class full of pupils? Certainly in a class a perv teacher could rub against a pupil while leaning over as if checking her work and not be noticed but if this was a suggestive remark he must have goodness knows how many witnesses he said it. At 40 and no doubt teaching awhile he would really have to be absolutely stupid to do this. There has also been so much talk on the media about this that everyone is hyped up at present. DON'T put yourself in the slightest danger but this one thing could blow up in your face. My 88 yr old father calls everyone darling dear or sweetheart and has done so all his life as it is just a natural way of talking here. He certainly is no old perv.

If you had this teacher for the year and this is the first time it happens, you might want to give him the benefit of the doubt, just because one never knows he might not have thought he was coming across like that. You have the right to let him know you don't approve of his tone and you'll inform your parents and the principle. Just be really sure!!!! His intentions are bad. On the other hand here everything is soooo out of proportions. I grew up in Costa Rica and the way we say hi to friends there would have everybody crying hail mary. But don't accept behavior from either teachers or classmates that make you feel uncomfortable

This is probably a regional thing. People in different parts of the country have different ways of addressing people. In Scotland, women and girls are often addressed as "hen", while in London it used to be "duckie", and up north it's "petal" or "pet"! Don't worry about it for now, but just watch out in case it happens again or on a regular basis. Then mention it to another, possibly female, senior teacher.

Newsflash: taxpayers do no longer pay for public union worker pensions. that's a false impression. Out of each and every dollar that funds Wisconsin' s pension and scientific coverage plans for state workers, a hundred cents comes from the state workers. How can that be? via fact the "contributions" encompass funds that workers chosen to take as deferred wages – as pensions while they retire – fairly than take at modern-day in funds. a similar is actual with the well-being care plan. If this weren't so a extreme crime could be occurring, the present of public funds fairly than charge for centers. hence, state workers are no longer being asked to easily "make contributions greater" to Wisconsin' s retirement gadget (or via fact the argument is going, "pay their honest share" of retirement costs as do workers in Wisconsin' s inner maximum sector who nonetheless have pensions and scientific coverage). they're being asked to settle for a decrease of their salaries so as that the state of Wisconsin can use the money to fill the hollow left by skill of tax cuts and decreased audits of firms in Wisconsin. The exertions agreements prepare that the 401-k plan funds is area of the great negotiated repayment. the keyword, in those agreements I examine, is: "The business business enterprise shall make contributions on behalf of the worker."

Paranoid you are! What was the question you asked him? For him too respond it seems he is being tried without a defence so go on what is the question you asked him then maybe we can formulate an answer. Given the complete scenario.
If he does it again then say something to him he may well just be trying to help you and put you at ease I really don't think he was trying to seduce you sweetheart good luck.

don't read into it too much....it's just a word....if he has not made any advance to you, then do nothing, you could get him into trouble for nothing...darling is word thats all....now if he is coming on to you and makes suggestive remarks, report him, i call people darling alot, and it does not mean i have ulterior motives, before you go spouting off, think about it first, he may be just being friendly, ask some of your school friends if he's used this term on them, if so then you have it confimed that your not the only one so don't sorry about it, this guy coul lose his job over nothing...so tread carefully

sounds like he was being friendly. All male teachers are not pervs. Stop reading something into nothing. If you are worried keep your distance but dont report him for calling you Darling. What a pile of rubbish.

no no no...lets not jump no conclusions now...every old person or elderly people say stuff like that darling, sweety, sugar...they all say that just think before u jeopardize his career by telling the principal...maybe you just took it to the next level that he was not even aiming for. old folks tell me that all the time you dont see me acting all crazy...so just take my advice and let it go and next time dont blow things outta proportion

I have a tendency to say "darlin'" A LOT ... it's just a term of endearment. There's nothing sexual lingering behind it. I wouldn't worry about it unless he's making other advances toward you, or making inappropriate suggestions.
