Actually, the sign does look like "69," but on its side. It is a simplified representation of a crab (the animal associated with the Cancer sign) originating from the Hellenistic period.

That's a good question. I'm a cancer, I'm into astrology, and even I don't know what the significance of the "69" is for. Some have teased me and say that it is represents something sexual (two people-you know what). Others say that it represents the maternal thing in us cancers. I dont know. I cant wait to see what other answers you get.

Only joking, sorry couldn't resist, but now that you mention it, they it does look like a sixty nine, but is really a crab. Not sure what it means other than most cancers I know are pains in the rear end!
