Very, very, very hard.

That's not to say you can't do it, but look at it this way: There are 32 teams in the NFL, each with 53 roster players and 8 practice squad players. That's a total of 1952 players.

Now, what are the odds that you are good enough to be one of those 2000 best football players in the world?

I'm not saying you shouldn't keep trying, because you should always strive to be the best you can be at anything you do. But you also need to understand that the NFL, except for those blessed few, is not a career plan.

Extremely difficult to play IN the NFL. You play for a team in the NFL, not for the NFL. You need a good agent to get you looked at, then during camps you need to go 110% all the time. Things are faster in person than what you see on TV. During training camp, you have young, hungry rookies trying to beat you out of a job. Someone hits you wrong, or you turn the wrong way, your career is over. The average career is only 3-5yrs., depending on your position. Lineman take the brunt of the abuse. Think you can take getting hit by 1 or 2 325lb. linemen for 50-75 plays? Or how about getting tackled by 1,000 lbs. of muscle? Then get up and do it again. That's some of the reasons the players are well paid.

Whatever fantasies you have will be dashed if you'd ever go to one of the pro team's summer training camps. Just watch them practice, and see them hit each other at only half speed. Just us mere mortals wouldn't last a down out there.
