Time will tell. I say probably both. You can hear the rhetoric about Iran being pumped up every day. It's only a matter of time if this madman is not stopped.

The USA will not invade IRAN...Iran is considerably bigger and more populated than both Iraq and Afghanistan and the USA does not have anywere near the troops needed to invade. The plan for Iran is B61-11s to take out their nuclear assets IF they do not let the inspectors back in.

By increasing troop levels he has the troops already in the neighborhood ready to attack Iran, that is what is really going to happen around the middle of February. This will happen after all the U.N. resolutions on Iran expires in mid February. All liberals and leftists will brainwash you into believing that this is an act of imperialism, but in reality our existence as a free nation depends on controlling the Islamic extremists. Can you imagine what could happen if Iran attacks Israel with nuclear weapons?
We already have two aircraft carrier groups, and 4 nuclear submarines in the area and you know that the U.S.A. doesn't expend billions of dollars in troop movements unless it is planning a major attack. President Bush weather you like him or not is not worry about his popularity, he worries about the security of our nation and that is "number one".
The axis of evil are real nations planning real bad things against Americans. Whenever they the Islamic extremists decide to start attacking us here in the U.S. they are not going to be asking us if we are liberals or conservatives, they are going to annihilate us all. We have no choice but to stop them and destroy them now.

Bush is not a war-monger. He never even thought of going
to war until 911 happened and he saw the need to take care
of these kind of terrorists that will intentionally kill innocent
people. I believe his request for troop level increases is to
keep the idiots in Iran from taking over Iraq (which they could
probably do) so maybe Iran will stay home if they see we have
many more troops there helping Iraq. Too bad we have these
kind of people in the world, but nice Americans like us who are
willing to help those depressed by murdering dictators. They
just live different lives over there and we could say, so be it, but
it seems they now want to bring their lifestyle of murder over
to US. I wonder how the politicians would feel and acted if Bush
had shrugged his shoulders and done nothing after 911?????

I think that it's to invade Iran. The wonderful "War Time President" wants to do just that: make more war!! I doubt it has to do with "keeping the peace" in Iraq. He has been posturing for a long time about Iran being one of the "Axis of Evil" and that they have no right to make a nuclear program...So again i believe it's in preparation to invade Iran and not to fight an insurgences. I wish they would Impeach this guy before he leads us to World War 3.

The entire force in Iraq even with the "surge" reinforcements couldn't invade and hold Iran. No, look for airstrikes or nuke strikes against Iran. They're itching to use a nuke.

I don't think there's much intent on invading iran. Ahmedinejad/the mullahs are gonna have his hands full one of these days; 30% unemployment yet all this money being spent on hamas, hezbollah, iraqi mercenaries and on nukes. One good earthquake will be the end of the ayatollahs.

i admire the Arab strategies We(Iraq) desire this (Shatt Al Arab , bigger oil fees ,Kuwait or despite) .They hence enter into negotiations wherein they simply state -- we are greater advantageous and greater suitable so supply us what we call for -- or we can invade you. So Iraq invades Kuwait, kidnaps, tortures and rapes Kuwaiti electorate, generally loots the placement, seizes its oil fields and then threatens Saudi Arabia -- and you ask what has that to do with the West or everybody else ? Do you ever ask your self why Arabs/Islam get considered one of those undesirable press international

AN INCREASE OF 21,500 TROOPS INTO THAT THEATER OF OPERATIONS WOULDN'T BE A DROP IN THE BUCKET TO THE AMOUNT OF SOLDIERS NEEDED TO INVADE IRAQ. THINK CLOSER TO 400,000 OR MORE. NOT A CHANCE.

Since the Bush war machine is so secretive and deceptive, it is uncertain what the reason for the increase is. It is also decidedly incorrect for Bush to simply assume the American people and Congress will sanction a blatant move of aggression against Iran.
