Because they want other people's views on their question. So they have something to think about and debate over. Or possibly because they want to see what the "other side" of the answer is like.

You mean like when someone asks, "Why do people ask a question when they already know the answer?" That's a good question.

I believe it is not so much to get the answer but to know that you are like minded with the people around you. Also,it would be rude of the asker to assume that the answerer knows that the asker already knows the answer. Wouldn't you say ?

It's usually to get a sense of confirmation from people who think the same way as you, or who have come to the same conclusions as you. Alternatively, some people just like answering questions so much that they answer questions no one even asked.

Or think they know!
Several good & bad reasons:
1. Argumentation.
2. Mockery
3. Tease
4. Disrespect others beliefs and want to belittle
5. Stir up other antagonizers.
6. Want support to what they think is correct.
7. Expand what they already know.
