Get a pumice stone. Use some gloves if the toilet scares you. Clean the toilet like regular, then dip your stone into the water and lightly scrub. DO NOT scrub hard, it will cause scratches which make it collect more gunk in the future. Lightly scrub until it's all gone. It works like a charm. It's also great for just under the rim where it turns black and moldy! Remember to only use the stone on porcelin. Don't use on any plastic or other things!

Minerals (iron, magnesium, calcium) in your water supply cause colored rings to form at the waterline in the toilet bowl. These often have a yellow or brown tint. If the water runs constantly from the tank to the bowl these deposits will form in lines along the drainage too. Get a product made for removing mineral deposits. I like "Lime Away Toilet Bowl Cleaner". It's stronger than the Lime Away Bathroom Cleaner, and should ONLY be used in the toilet bowl. It is caustic, but specific and limited use will not harm your septic system.

I have the problem of hard water, but Comet cleaner and a toilet brush make the toilet super-shiny-clean. (The "old fashioned Comet in the green can - not Comet bathroom cleaner, which is excellent for hard water in the tub but which gets diluted by toilet water.)
Comet also makes a non-abrasive powder cleanser. I've used that, and it works too.

Use latex gloves, great ventilation and goggles. Pour a cup of muriatic acid around the ring leave it there for 3 minutes and it will easily scrub off. The ring is usually hard water stains. You can try CLR which isn't so overpowering. have a great day.

It's not urine, it's hard water. Go to the Dollar General and buy The Works (It's $2.00) Put it in the toilet and let it soak. If it's not gone in 3 hours, do it again and let it soak overnight

I had that too, I used CLR, it removed it. I had to do a little scrubbing with the brush, but it got rid of it.
