During the Vietnam War, many young draftees complained that if they were old enough to fight this countries wars, they should be allowed to vote on who supports them. They were heard and the age limit was dropped from 21 to 18. The same argument was used to lower the legal age to buy alcohol and some states went along with that too but not all and not for long.

No. It was 21 until the 1972 presidential election. One of the reasons McGovern lost so badly is he counted on more votes from that 18-20 age group.

Nope. The 26th Amendment was ratified making the voting age 18 (1971). Before that it was 21.

To my knowledge it used to be 21 once upon a time, we here in the UK are now trying to get it down to 16.
