when you're online, and you see people say things like "ppl" instead of people, "neway" instead of anyway, (that one really irritates me....all it'd take is one more lousy letter to keep from looking like a jackass) "bcoz" instead of because, "ur" instead of your, or you're, dat and da, instead of that and the, etc etc etc...Does that irritate you, or do you do it too? I used to do it when I first started chatting, then I realized everyone thought I was 12 or 13, so I stopped, and now its one of my biggest pet peeves. Does it bother you or do you not care either way?

(It irritates me on here because when people ask or answer questions using 90% internet slang, it's annoying to read)

Yes, it really annoys me! I thought I was the only one. It's almost as if Internet speak is another language. I won't answer a question if it takes me five minutes to decipher what the person is trying to say.

The most annoying example I have seen is:

"Ppl plz cn u hlp me i hv hw ? tht i dnt knw wht is answ"

It translated to "People please can you help me I have homework question that I don't know what is answer" which is not only bad grammar and a run-on sentence, but why do they always FORGET the vowels? It will be interesting in about 5 years when these teenagers are trying to write resumes or apply for jobs. How can one expect to get a decent job if one can't even form a proper sentence?

Internet slang or not, it simply makes people sound unintelligent. Maybe it is just me, but I also have a difficult time taking people who don't spell words correctly, seriously; especially in answering a question that is widely debated. To me, an individual's grammar and spelling mean a great deal to how much credibility I lend to their argument. So, the answer to your question is "yes", it annoys me very much when people slaughter the English language.

When you mean "online" are you referring to email, or websites? A lot of people are connecting to their email via mobile phones and blackberries. Why spend a long time typing out long words with your small keypad, when you can get your point across in a matter of seconds by dropping a few characters.

Now if people begin writing essays or papers or filing reports with this style, then yes, we have a problem.

I use it simply because in my profession I am "instant messaging" all day. Those two or three letters here and there start to add up over the period of eight hours so I do anything I can to shorten my typing time. My fingers start to get all crampy after a while anyway.

I find this to be very troubling. I think written communication should be phonetically and grammatically correct. There is too much tolerance for Internet slang. You are correct when you stated that this is a plague amongst the young people, and it scares me. They can't take the time to spell out a message clearly, and they are our future leaders? Beware....

Yes, this really annoys me too, and I consider it very rude.

It saves the writer about 10% effort but it costs the reader about 40. People that type in that lingo are basically saying "Look at me not giving a sh*t about how readable my post is, you guys are just going to have to deal with it, cause i'm just that cool".

indeed it does annoy me. It's hard to read, and it doesn't take much for the other person to just type a few more letters to complete the word properly. Plus, it ruins their english because it becomes a habit.

Yes it annoys me but I may not be the best judge because... Well, everything annoys me.

- People who walk up and down the stairs on the left side in the subway

-People who say suposably

-People who let their dogs sniff your *** in the street

-Unruly children

-badly assembled sandwhiches from a deli

Actually, I better go. You're starting to annoy me too.

I think times change, people have become more lazy in how they write and talk, and yes that does annoy me greatly. Sometimes I think they use internet slang because they don't know how to spell. LOL (ha ha ha)
