I think a lot of people who hate those outside of their own little ethnic group fall into the trap of one person of a certain ethnic group did or said something to them and one becomes some, some turns into most and most turns into all.

Example: let's say a Black person is insulted by a White person. They may not have the power to say anything in rebuttal to the insult (the White person may be their boss) and that one person ruins the reputation of any other White person they meet, regardless of their personal actions. This is how generalizing about a group of people frustrates any real sense of communication, learning and understanding. It's too easy to say, 'If one White/Black/Hispanic/Asian, etc., etc, did this, then they all will do it,' rather than accept people on an individual basis. That takes effort and anyone who is racist has failed to make that effort. That's just my two cents...

Absolutely

The more you know about a culture and it's people, the less of a fear factor there is. Hence less hatred as well. People always hate what they are afraid of, and they are afraid of things they do not know about. Much like the cold war with the USSR.
Will it ever come to an end? Doubt it. There always seem to be plenty of ignorant people to fill the shoes of those who leave.
Hopefully the more that cultures integrate in life and online, the more we will learn about each other and some real dialogue will develop. The web is going a long way in making this a smaller world, and as it improves and more people have access there will be a little less ignorance in the world.

Yes, I believe the ignorant are more likely to be racist.

It disturbs me that you specifically mention having "a bad experience with someone of color". This implies that you seem to think that racism is limited to only being against people of color.

It has been my experience that all races are quite capable of being racist. Further, it is my opinion that often those who exhibit the most blatant racist behavior either believe themselves justified because of their minority status or, more to the point, believe that it is not possible for their actions to be racist because they are not "white".

Racism = narrow mindedness.

Even if you have a bad experience with someone of another race, you should be open minded enough to know that one person does not represent the way an entire race is.

Generalizations are dangerous, and show lazy thinking.

That is a true statement, but some people think ignorance is bliss. I would be nice to think people would change. Even if there was only one race on this earth, they would still find something to hate about someone else. It's a never ending cycle.

No. Racism is bred in people. While there's a natural defense system in staying with what you know, etc. -- there are entire populations sprining-up from coast to coast that use a financial condition (presumably) to explain-away the intact and deeply rooted racism at their core (the suburbs). Until we have sep. neighborhoods/towns/portions of states that are seperated by whatever you think they're separated by -- and of course, the clownish stereotypes that our entertainment industry (meaning WRITERS and record execs -- who are mostly of one color, etc.) employ... we will have 2 Americas, as they say. And PS - the Dem party isn't our solutuon: it just points to a problem, to try and get votes from both.

Well your asking if there will ever be an ending to this useless racism? It is the same answer as will there ever be an end to fighting and killiing and wars... No.. It's because People are brought up with racism, people judge people by there color because they are diffrent, and alot of peole will never understand that everyone is alike, they will always be racist. people that are rasicst most likely will always be racist, people that arn't racist are racist, everyone is racist, you just dont realize it, haven't you ever judged someone by there color, or expeted of them to do something or anything, yes you have, you no you have.

Racism isn't lack of understanding. in spite of the undeniable fact that that's. Like, labeling something to a race as a stereotype is lack of understanding, yet no longer continually racism. Hating them because of the stereotype is in spite of the undeniable fact that. turning out to be up in an undiversed community and being taught issues that are untrue does no longer make one a racist, only uninformed. in the event that they p.c. to hate others because of the fact of those fake ideas that's in spite of the undeniable fact that.

I find it very ignorant. And I do not believe that if you have a bad run in w/ 1 person of a race, that you should hate that whole race b/c of it. It is generalizing, which I feel is just as ignorant.
