Conquering will never be out of vogue. It is a basic human instinct. Dictatorship is the simplest form of government that human beings understand. The message is simple "do what I want you to do or die". Or; "do what I want you to do and die anyway". It is a constant battle by the civilized governments, not to give in to this primitive urge for domination by a single despotic ruler. Just observe Venezuela and Iran and Cuba etc.
Some people get confused when they are told that they are free to do as they please and then get thrown in jail for robbing a bank. The idea of freedom under the law is just too complex for the unregenerate.
A little correction Achilles was a great warrior not a conquerer. He fought for the king Priam.

Conquering with a sword or gun is vogue because of media frenzy. But to conquer with money is very possible in modern society.

Conquering would be too hard in current day. There's too many things blocking it from happening. It's near impossible. A while back, it was still possible.

There's this game I play, Empire Earth 2, and I've noticed this. In older civilizations, it's not too hard to conquer, but in like epoch 14(modern day) it's near impossible.

I wouldn't want to be a conqueror, firstly you actually have to get power, which seems to consist of making empty promises. Then you need fight several long and tiring wars to actually occupy some land, and then you spend a century trying to pacify the people you conquered whilst everyone else plots your downfall.

i personally never have desired to conquer in the footsteps of those listed, but i think that most people have a mindset to conquer something. it may be long term, it may be short term. it may be something positive, it may be something negative. i think we all do, but the context in which "conquering" is placed in is the question.
