I'm not 100% sure what fragments are, of if it means the the files are no good.

What should I do for the best. The files seem to be common files application files.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

your computer is unable to defrag the common files/application files as they are running..they are the files which run xp (or whatever operating system you have)..you can defragment these by setting a boot time defrag..this means that the next time you start up your pc it will defragment them before it starts up when they are not in use

File Fragments are the bits and pieces of the same file stored seperately on the hard drive. If a file is quite large the Operating System (Windows) stores this file where ever it finds empty space, in turn creating file fragments. This empty space is usually allocated in blocks of 512 or more based on if it is a NTFS or FAT32 filesystem.

Sometimes these large files will not get De-fraged completely. Which is nothing to worry about. If you have Norton Disk Optimizer then you can use to de-frag the drive which may bring these seperate blocks together.

This is nothing major to worry about.

The files should be ok, maybe they are very large files. Fragmentation just means pieces of the files are stored in different physical locations on the disk, but the operating system can find them though its file allocation tables.

35 files out of the 10's of 1000's on your computer should not pose a performance problem but if there are no errors on your drive, you don't have much of a problem.

when you defragment your computer, your computer moves files around. Some files cannot be moved. these are some system files that are required at that time to run windows, don't worry about it; every computer has those
