The pull mechanism (that is on top of the tub faucet) that diverts water from the tub to the shower head is broken. Is it easy to fix? If so, what's your advice?

Home Depot sells replacement spouts with the pull up diverter. They are pretty cheap, and is easy to replace unless the old spout has corroded to the pipe.

I'd definitely try the hot neighbor. Just explain your situation and hopefully he'll accede. Try not to flirt with him while asking or he might get the idea that maybe your shower isn't broken. If for some reason hot neighbor turns you down, you could try the local swimming pool or gym (if you want to become a member as well) Or you could plug up a hose to your bathroom sink and then hook it around your shower head and take a cold shower? All the best with the greasy hair =P
