OK, what's been happening?
Last year, in addition to Al Gore's movie, quite a few evangelical leaders, fortune 500 executives and oil company men signed a GW initiative. A democractic congress just took office. So, oil puppet Bush is losing his support base on this and in addition, the new IPCC 2007 report is due to be released this month and it's been leaked that it contains even stronger language regarding global warming than the last issued back in 2003. So, Bush had no choice but to follow suit in his State of the Union Message last week, saying it was time to address climate change.
Prevously, the White House had been actively suppressing interviews and forcing scientists to play it down. So, it sounds to me like the lid is finally off the pot and things will continue to heat up.
I'm surprised to see people here still spouting the GW denial nonsense. On the one side we have the entire active peer-reviewed publishing scientific community, IPCC, NASA, NCDC, NOAA, EPA, CEC, UCS, and on and on. And on the other side we have ... ummm .... what was that ... oh yeah, a handful of non-publishing scientists most of whom receive oil money.
"In 1997, the UCS circulated a petition entitled "A Call to Action". The petition called for the ratification of the Kyoto Protocol. The petition was signed by 110 Nobel Prize laureates, including 104 Nobel Prize-winning scientists." -- Wikipedia
This was back in 1997. Now, in the words of Dr. Robert Correll, "The science is unassailable."
I'm putting my money on the Nobel Prize winning scientists. Which side would YOU put your bet on?

Although like many of you I have had some doubt about the actuality of global climate change. In fact I still have reservations concerning the extent of this phenomena, the rate at which it will occur, the precise causes, and the duration of the change. However, I believe the entire world will now begin to take more aggressive steps to curb what it believes to be the causes of this man made change. I believe if all the science is correct we will see incontrovertible evidence of the change caused by man and not by nature within the next 100 years. However we are already seeing things which in 20 years or so we will be saying were strong evidences of the onset of global change.

Yes, something did happen recently. The democrats took control of the legislature.
OK, let's say you're a climate scientist, and as is the case for most scientists, a big part of your job is to get grants to support your work (and your salary). Oh, and many of the grants come from the Federal government.
So now that the democrats are in power, there will be more tax money going to climate research. Therefore, it's important to convince the citizens that this is a good thing to do. Hence, we have more attention in the media and Hollywood on the dangers of global warming and that humans are the cause.
If you'd like to see some scientific work that shows that less than 1% of greenhouse gasses are caused by humans, please visit the link below.

just the media scarring you into watching. If you want something to read I suggest Jon Stossels book. But anyways, global warming is not all its cracked up to be. The recent un report is simply another way of the 3rd world telling the 1st world you suck and scientist securing grant money.

Hi. Hard to say what part Man plays and what part Nature plays in the climate. I think that folks who think that NOTHING is happening may be naive. That would assume NO change, which is harder to believe than SOME change.

it's just the left-wing liberals trying to scare some more taxes out of you. Don't let them scare you. It is quite normal for weather patterns to fluctuate to various extremes every several years. Honest. Just look at historical temperatures and water levels. fluctu- fluctu- fluctuatin' fer sure. peace.
