After seeing the first movie I started reading the second book - there were a few things I felt like I was missing, so I went back and started with the first. There are a ton of details and plot lines in the books that are left out of the movies.

Believe me, you will not be able to put the books down. I've made bets with friends over this! I always win :)

Yes, I do feel like the first and second books are still somewhat... children's books. However, the 3rd book's plotline definitely gets deeper and more complicated, I was HOOKED by the 3rd.

The fourth book was my absolute favorite - it's so epic!

I hope you give them a chance! You won't regret it! (And I bet it'll make you enjoy the next couple of movies so much more!)

I love the books much more than the movies, but I do still enjoy the movies. I don't think you would end up hating the movies after reading the books, there's just less detail in the movies. They obviously dramatize things in the movies more, just take things from the book and exaggerate them a little, but they're relatively still the same and I don't think you would hate the movies or the books if you watched and read all of them. I highly recommend the books be read, but I think you'd be okay by reading the Goblet of Fire without having actually read the first three.

Yes!! Read all of the books. They are so fantastic and well written and you would be missing out by not reading them.

Start from book one, because the movies leave things out. Although the left out things are just small details or little plots in the big theme of the story, it is a wonderful experience and pleasure to read the books. The details add so much to the books that you can't get with the movies.

So yes, read the books...You'll be glad you did!

If I were you or you were me, read the books, their always ten times better than any movie out there, the only movie that I ever saw that came anywhere even close to being as good as the book, was The Hobbit, but then again that's just me, why not see the movie first then read the book it will give you a lot more for the book I bet.

Yes, read ALL six Harry Potter books...they are excellent.

Also, the movies are very good, and even though they were kind of long they do not contain all the great stuff in the books.

For example, in the first Harry Potter movie, the director cut out the scenes of Peeves the Poltergeist. Peeves is a minor, but important character in all six books but is not in any of the movies. If you never read the books you'll never know about him.

There is SO MUCH stuff in the books that never made it to the movies!!!!

Read the books.you will find that the movies did a poor job of conveying the details, and got some salient points wrong..all the while leaving out some critical details...My son was so disappointed in the movies that we didn't go to the theater to see the third or fourth ones (waited and were glad for them to come out on DVD)..Also if you start by reading book four after only seeing the first three movies you will be confused about some details, will have missed out on some of the best characters (Peeves the poltergeist for one) and will feel generally lost

Yes Yes Yes! Start from book 1!! The movies leave out soo much stuff from the book. Ive already read the books about 4 times each, and they are almost better than the movies. They get into more details than the movie.. Trust me on this, I almost did what you did, then realized i was missing out on so much..

you should definitely read the books. thats exactly what i did, i saw the movies and then one of my friends told me to read the books. they were amazing and wayyyy more detailed than the movies. even though the movies leave a lot out, you will probably still like them. i get frustrated when things are really different, but they have done such a great job with the cast and making it look as realistic as possible, that i dont think you will hate the movies if you originally liked them first.

Yes, I would DEFINITELY! Read the books. The first 2 movies follow the books pretty well but Prisoner of Azkaban skips some things and Golbet of Fire skips ALOT and leaves out ALOT of important things. Sirius isn't in the movie and Bill and Charlie aren't either. The books are ALOT better!
