I believe that the main ingredient in a successful relationship & the most important one at that is trust. Without trust...you have nothing.

The main ingredient in a succesful relationship, as you phrase it, is definitely mutual love and turst. No love means no relationship, and no trust means a eminent, and often very messy, breakup.

Mutual respect and positive communication--- I guess it would be two main ingredients. Each partner must first and foremost have respect for each other. Communication is essential in any, I repeat, any relationship.

I asked two very old people who were married for a very long time the same question. The woman said trust, the man said a good sense of humor.
