Well I can note one strong difference you should definitely look at, the Japanese immigrants were put into interment camps during WWII and the Chinese were not.
Also the Chinese have been immigrants longer here in this country, they came during the "pioneer" days and experienced a great deal of persecution working on railroads and such. The Japanese were a much newer wave to the country.
Overall I would say that that Japanese are far better "assimilated" into our culture than the Chinese, but I would attribute this to the fact that their immigrant wave came later. When the Chinese moved here, they were forced into certain areas of the city ("China" towns) because they were not allowed to live anywhere else.
