We are thinking about going to Dollywood and the Smokey Mountains? What specifically should we see? Any hotel or campground recommendations?

This trip is for 2 adults, no kids, and we are thinking about bringing the dog along. We'll see.

Depends on what you are looking to do - Is it a family trip or a just the two of you vacation? Cabins are wonderful for the two of you - tons of romantic choices. Try Cove Mountain Realty, www.covemountain.com; we have stayed with them a bunch. Always clean and fairly reasonable on price. When we have our kids with us we like to stay at the Econo Lodge Riverside in Pigeon Forge. The Pigeon River is right behind it and there is plenty of friendly ducks and machines to buy food. It's easy cheap entertainment for the kids. The pool there is also indoors and is a great size for the kids to enjoy. Free contiental breakfast is good there too. Shopping is AWESOME! The best is Five Oaks in Seiverville. I could give you tons of information and I don't mind to offer my opinon. We live about 2 hours (including 2 bathroom stops) from the Smokies and average visting about 6 times per year. Don't stay at the Howard Johnson!!! It's awful. The Schular Inn is nice and has a full free breakfast. You have to eat at the Apple Barn Farmhouse Resturant - it's the best!! And try to get an Apple Dumplin' from the Apple Barn's gift shops - those are great also! Gatlinburg is nice too, it's just a short drive, but I don't reccommend staying there, traffic jams make it impossible to get in and out late of the night. We just usually drive over there and walk the shops, it's very nice. And the Ripley's Aquarium is great, but do it on a weekday to avoid crowds. (Expensive though - adult tickets are 17.95) Gosh, I just can't seem to stop here! Post more in your question if you want specific ideas - like family or the two of you getaway, or if you want to go to an attraction. If I've been there I'll let you know if it is good or not!
Do the Cade's Cove Drive if you are interested in seeing the mountians. The drive over the mountain to Cherokee, NC is nice too and they have a Harrah's Casino plus you can tour Cherokee. (Indian settlement)
After a couple of hours of thought here are some more things - you are also very close to Knoxville, we ususally do the zoo, even when we were pre kids. And there is a new Bass Pro Shop in Kodak (just as you exit I-40) that is pretty awesome to visit too. Try one of the pancake houses for breakfast - those are great!
One word of advice if you get a cabin that says seculded you may be traveling up a very steep hill and possibly the cabin will feel like it is hanging off a cliff. Look on the websites very carefully and ASK questions about locations when you make your reservation if that definiton of seclusion scares you.

You should rent a cabin in Gatlinburg. Gatlinburg is just past Pigeon Forge (that is where Dollywood is) it is a quaint mountain community filled with shops selling handcrafted wares.
Dollywood will be fun for the kids, but normally my sweetie and I just make it a romantic getaway for 2.

Dollywood is a wonderful place and the Smokey Mountains are gorgeous. You should visit the Tennessee website at http://www.state.tn.us or http://www.tennessee.gov and visit these websites as well http://www.gatlinburg-tennessee.org/index.htm and http://www.dollywood.com . Cade's Cove.
Ride the tram to the top of Ober Gatlinburg.
If you have time, try to do some Blue Ridge Parkway in NC.
