I love Aqua Teen Hunger Force and can't wait for the movie, if I was offered a job hanging up neon signs to promote it, I would take it in a heartbeat! But what do you think?

(I would pay big money to get my hands on one of those signs)

For "hoax" stuff as the prosecutors and LE agencies are saying... no way.

Just look at the wording. They are saying they are being rung up for "planting a hoax device". Hmm. Now I understand the rationale if someone plants a device then calls in and says- Hey, this is a bomb. The agencies react, find out that the bomb ISN'T a bomb... so that someone is definitely liable for a hoax.

Where is the claim that the devices were explosives? It's not coming from the PR/ Ad guys that got arrested... it's from the people who reported it. If they misinterpreted it and wanted agency action, that's not the Ad guys fault, it's the people that reported it. The fact that the agencies went all out for their response and it was a false alarm to me just goes with the territory. You get that at all levels... people call 911 for non-emergencies. People call the police for matters that aren't actual police matters. Fire dept's get called if someone smells something that could be a fire. If it's a false alarm, but made with good intentions, the reporters aren't charged with calling in a hoax. Just the nature of having to respond to everything whether it's a valid call or not.

They'd never admit it in public, but I do think a lot of the higher ups are making such a fuss because it is rather an embarassment for them the way it turned out. The language of their statements tries so hard to paint the "devices" in that bomb sort of way... lighted circuit designs, package, etc... uh, it's a freaking lite brite.

So since you had citizens who had no idea what they were and called it in and the agencies responded, they aren't seeing it as a practical "well these things are going to happen anytime someone sees something they think is suspicious" but they are trying to make it out to be "they shouldn't have put those things out there in the first place, they should have expected this". Again. Lite Brite. If people should "expect" consequences, then we wouldn't have warnings on ceiling fans saying not to stick your head inbetween the moving blades, or restaruants being sued because someone ordered hot coffee and burned themselves.

As was mentioned in an above answer... if they broke ordinances as far as making notification or needing a permit to place advertisements, then yes... if they failed to comply, they need to be rung up for that (but that goes to the ad agency, not to the workers). For planting hoax devices, no. Unless there is some regulation that says you can't use "X" as a promotional/ ad item because it can resemble a bomb, then you can't fault them for it.

I doubt there would be such a regulation, because that leaves a lot open to interpretation. If you can sit it out on a table at a theater as an ad, then you can use it. Now if there is a rule about placement, then you can go back to the rules on getting permission to place them properly. Again, that's a ad agency thing- if they get the right permits and such, they should be rung up for violating those procedures, NOT planting "hoax devices".

If the agencies are all hot and bothered about a false alarm, then they need to re-evaluate how they respond and verify reports. There already has been instances of false alarms in response to powders on letters/ packages, packages left alone in a public place... false alarms are going to happen. If they take massive action and it turns out to be something innocent, they have to accept that as part of the job.

I do not think they should be prosecuted with setting off a false security scare. The boxes they hang up were not intended to look like bombs or anything else of that nature. They were intended to be advertisements. If they were intented to look like bombs then I support prosecuting them like this.

I do believe that they broke the law hanging these things up without approval from the city. You cannot hang up a sign or a box or whatever on a city bridge without permission from the city. So, whatever laws they broke with that, I believe they should be prosecuted. This should result in fines that the people who hired these guys should then pay for them.

I think it has blown way out of proportion. They should treat them like they hung paper signs with just a little more severity because street signs are lighted so there could have been confusion for less intelligent people. Basically, tell them not to do it again and maybe, MAYBE, give them a small fine. No big deal

Officials in Boston are obviously dangerously stupid, and should be under lock and key.

Reminds me of the day at work when the police blew up a suitcase full of underwear that belonged to a homeless guy who had fallen asleep in the men's room.

I don't think they even imagined that this would cause such an uproar. It was not the brightest thing to do but I don't think they deserve to be jailed for it. The marketing company should have to pay back the cost of the "clean up" but those nmen should not go to jail.

this whole thing is completely rediculous. it's a freakin light brite, and even though it was in like 10 different cities, the only people who made a big deal of it was boston. i'm sorry, but if you're scared of a light brite with a cartoon character on it, you need to stop watching the news and grow some f*cking balls, man.

Futurama beats relatives guy via a nudge. purely because they extremely had storylines, while FG can many times be purely about not something yet asides and non sequiturs. yet Harvey Birdman, lawyer at regulation trumps all of them.

I don't think it would be good to have stoners hanging up signs. Let someone else hang it up and we can kick back light up and watch the cartoons.
