the only way to check is to have a certified service tech. come and check it for you. it will help if you can find out how long the furnace has been in the house. most service calls are not very expensive so there should be no sticker shock unless replacement is necessary.

If this was an add-on cleaner it may not be wired to your furnace. It'll plug into 120V outlet and a little plastic tube will go from the control box/power supply to the air handler. There's a sensor that looks for vacuum to know when to fire up the air cleaner.

If the filter is not properly in place, there may not be enough vacuum to activate it. Some fancy units even detect too much vacuum, as in a dirty filter, and stop powering the unit so it won't clog more. Either way you willl need to examine the filter and maybe clean it as advised by your manual or visit the manufacturers website. (Many have a removable, rinseable insert.)

If it is hardwired to your furnace, do as the others have suggested.

I would check the outlet where the elect. air cleaner is plugged into,if spliced into Air Handler the unit was improperly installed.Have seen many it of times in the field.usually 120 volt outlet is needed to operate the E.A.C.And you can also see if it was installed properly and pushed in all the way to engage safety switch.

If the light is not on, then it is not getting power to the e.a.c. unit. This could be a bad relay in the air handler. You are going to need a pro.
