In the UK I use the Orange service. I am told that it will cost £1.45 per minute to make a call and 90p a minute to receive calls. Is it possible to buy a SIM card in SA with credit pre-loaded and use this for internal and international calls.

Make sure your phone is unlocked to accept SIM cards from other carriers.

Buy a Pay As You Go SIM card in South Africa. You can buy them at the airport or you'll find many mobile phone outlets called Vodacom, MTN or Cell-C.

It should cost about £10 for the SIM card. Not sure how much credit comes with it.

You can then buy credit from £5 - £80. Local calls cost about 15p per minute and text messaging probably about 4p per text.

Not sure what overseas calling will cost but you can receive calls and there will be no cost.

Use Telediscount and give friends or family the access number to call you on - this means that they don't have to pay an international rate and I believe it is about 15p per minute for them.

Well, you would need only pray for people in New York. If your in Mass, what would you be afraid of? The way I heard it was the Charles Bolden, a Chief Engineer at NASA was asked by a Journalist what we should do if a giant asteroid were headed toward New York. He told the Journalist that we should pray. For the record, (and I would think the recent impact in Russia would have made this obvious) an asteroid impact does not automatically mean an apocalypse.

Take your handset and get a sim card over there, it will be cheaper. I did this in Australia, and it all worked fine.
