Is this a Black or Dalmatian Molly? I imagine you have a full fresh water tank here. Your Molly sounds like it might have an internal fungus or parasite. One way you can help it is to educate your self about Mollies first. A Molly actually can live in Brackish water. What is Brackish water you are asking? Brackish water is a mix of salt and fresh water. Usually tributaries have brackish water fish. If your Molly is a black or Dalmatian, they actually prefer Brackish over fresh water. Even if your Molly is a sunset or Balloon, you still can help it.

I will warn you this is an advanced method... I use it because I am a Marine Biologist... But I can explain the steps here and if they are followed to the tee you should see relief for your fish.

Assuming you have a fresh water tank, you'll need to buy a small amount of salt. Real salt now not the aqua salt sold for PH balancing. We are talking about salt for salt water fish. You only will need a cup. You might always want to have a small bag around any way for future use if you are keeping fish that are considered Brackish.

Steps: (Salt water enthusiasts will recognize this method as reverse bathing)

Day 1:
1. Scoop out some of your aquarium water into a bucket.
2. Put your Molly into the bucket. Keep your eye on the clock as it will be essential to monitor the Progress of the fish.
3. Add a teaspoon of salt into the bucket. Wait 25 Minutes.
4. Add another Teaspoon. Wait 30 minutes.
5. add a cup of your aquarium water again. Wait 25 Minutes
6. add another cup of your aquarium water again. Wait 30 Minutes.
7. Put your Molly back into the Fresh water tank.

Repeat this on Day 2.

By Day three your molly should be back to normal.
Now you are asking what the heck is this and why does it work?

This method of Salt water bathing (The reverse of Freshwater bathing for Salt Fish) drives on a single premise... The parasite/fungus affecting your fish was contracted under specific conditions. Change the conditions and that parasite can not survive. Salt water is safe for the molly in low Salinity such as this example (IE adding two teaspoons will only bring up the water's total Salinity by a few points in the bucket) because as I explained above they prefer a dash of salt in their water to begin with. So you are basically sweating out the parasite, while the fish stabilizes its condition.

Hope this will help you.

I have quite a few molly's myself and some have done this and some haven't. When my tank temperature reaches around 76 to 78 degrees, the male will put on a show for the female in my tank by swimming eradically but near the female to show her his interests. One of my female dalmation molly's did that about 3 or 4 days before giving birth to all her fry. Keep a close eye on her. Molly's will generally give birth within 30 days after mating and the little fry, from what I have had happen, come out quickly and sink to the bottom of the net breeder. Good luck and hope this helps... :)

Has she been eating too much? One of my fish was having trouble swimming. He would attempt to swim to the bottom but would float back up to the top. I was really worried about him as I thought he was dying. I spoke to my boss who has lots of fish and he suggested he may have a touch of indigestion so he gave me some food to try him on called Freeze Dried River Shrimp and a couple of days later he was right as rain. It acts as a roughage in your fishes bladder and gets rid of any excess food that has built up inside. Good Luck and I hope your fish gets better soon

Parasites or bad water parameters. Do you test your water for ammonia and nitrites? Fish will flash when the water parameters are bad. Flashing is the technical term for any sporadic movement where they twist or wiggle their bodies or swim weird, inadvertantly making their scales flash.

You need to take her to the vet, so they can check and make sure of whats wrong. Could be something serious. Sounds kind of like seizures, but you should get her to the vet ASAP.
