Most likely GHW Bush and Oliver North were behind the Taliban. The theory is, in post Russian War Afghanistan Bush tried to get the deposed King to come back to power so Unical could build a pipeline across Afghanistan. King Zahir was already doing business with the Huston Oil Cartel. His followers (Taliban) were armed and financed by the CIA.

The Taliban, or at least the beginning of the Taliban, would have formed as a result of the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in 1979 and 1980. Jimmy Carter would have been President at that time. The United States supplied the Taliban and thier allies in Afghanistan who were fighting the Soviets with weapons from the beginning of Soviet occupation to when the Soviets left in 1989. This would include both Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan.

The Taliban were formed during the mid-1990s. Thus - Clinton was president.
Their weapons were a mix of Soviet leftovers and small arms imported from Europe, Pakistan and China.

Funding for the Afghanis against Russia started in 1979. Not all Afghanis became part of the Taliban.

Actually, the Taliban took power in Afghanistan in 1996. That was during the Clinton years. As to who supplied their weapons, I honestly don't know. I am fairly certain that we did not.

Well, it is believed that before the invasion of Afghanistan, it was in fact the American government who supplied the Taliban so that they could prevent the Russians from taking over.

I don't know when they came to power, but who gave them the weapons? We did. When the Soviets invaded in the 70's. Rather than us getting involved, we gave weapons to the to help them fight against the Soviets.
