I would like to find out about the spirit of the 1890s that Chesterton attacked when he began writing in 1901. Thanks in advance. :))

I think i have a learning disorder --- I thought this said spirit of 1980s. However the whole drinking thing would apply there too.

Chesterton was a Catholic and a socialist. I can only assume he was attacking the decadents such as Beardsley...
