Cats any day. Dogs are big and scary (apart from the tiny ones which are often small and annoying). That's not to say that I don't like any dogs, if I get to know one I will come to love it quite easily.
I have 2 cats and I seem to be developing and allergy to one of them, which is pretty rubbish. The other one is evil and will bite you as soon as look at you. Unless he's in a good mood, then he will expect your full attention and lots of food. So not doing too well on the cat front, but generally I love them, I think they're a lot cuter than dogs.
And they're smarter too. Sure, you can't train them, but that's because they're not stupid enough to do what you tell them, they do what they want when they want. I like that they're independent. You can go away for a weekend and all you have to do is get your neighbour to put down cat food twice a day, dogs need so much more attention and care. And you have to wash them. Plus cats clean up after themselves, you don't have to go round picking up their crap.
So yeh, definitely cats. And I've always been scared of big dogs with their huge teeth, my friend has a dog who is bigger than me, it just scares me.

I love both. I have 5 cats and no dogs because we have a small home and I work two jobs. I dog sit a lot of other peoples' dogs. If, however, I were forced to pick one over the other it would be dogs.
