i heard there a taxes or something that you have to pay once you recieve the item

Usually there are no 'extras'. However, it depends on what you have bought and whether import duty is to be charged. You should have a look at Customs & Excise web pages for more info based on the specific item you purchased.

It depends on where you live. if you buy an item from another country you will likely have to deal with import duty on the item and depending on the country you live in, then taxes. For instance in BC canada when I buy an item in the USA (from ebay or anywhere else) I pay PST (provincial sales tax), GST (general sales tax) and Duty fees based on the cost of the item if it is not sent as a gift.

There are fees for the seller. However, the seller should be charging you duty fees due to customs regulations. Some sellers do and some don't. Ask up front before you bid.

no you dont you pay fees on ebay if selling but not to buy

only for the seller, I have had things from china and was not charged more than i was quoted.
