i have to review a nonfiction book that deals exclusively with roman history.

i'd like to find a book about a specific thing, such as daily life, the role of women, marriage, torture, their view of children, art, education etc..

i would not like to review a biography or a book about any of the roman wars.

also i'd like it to be written by a contemporary author.

i know i could just look this up on amazon, and believe me i have, but if you've read anything meets these descriptions i'd love a comment!

thanks.

ask your local librarian, they usually know just what to suggest. especially if it's at a college or one of the larger city libraries. (if you live in a big city)
plus that way you can get the look and feel of the book, read a bit of a few of them and decide right there which one to pick.

good subject, I've often thought of doing that just for my own personnel knowledge.
Good Luck:)))

Books from historical Roman circumstances or cutting-edge books approximately historical Rome? the unconventional as all of us be attentive to it did no longer particularly come approximately until the fifteenth century, although, the poetry of Ovid particularly his Metamorphosis is astounding. Virgil's Aenied is likewise large from that era. in case you want cutting-edge historic fiction on the era the final artwork on the project is Robert Graves' I Claudius and Claudius the God. EDIT: If that's what you like then the above innovations could be appropriate up your alley. The Aenied is particularly the Roman equivalent of the Odyssey and the Metamorphosis is a flowing tale that is going with the aid of each and all the main considerable Roman myths linking them jointly fairly brillaintly. The Graves novels are based on the real activities interior the existence of the Emperor Claudius. beginning up along with his childhoood below the 1st Emperor Augustus and ending along with his own rule. alluring and exciting.

For information on Roman daily life, values, ethics, etc, look up "Ceasar and Christ" by Will Durant.

A more contermpry aurthor is A.J. Langguth, "a noise of War" this is more about the lives of Caesar, Octavian and Pompey though.

Both of these are availale on autio cassette!

go to your public library and ask for it, if they don't have it they can get it.
