smokes marijuana on a weekends. She used to smoke it everyday before she found out she was pregnant, now has cut down. Would you say that this will affect the baby in any way?

No, as long as she doesn't do it every day and doesn't do it excessively when she does smoke it, the baby will be fine. Some cultures use marijuana to control morning sickness and other cultures use it during pregnancy to make delivery easier. They don't say how it makes delivery easier just that they use it for that.

Uhh, YEAH. Of course it can affect the baby, and It probably will. If the baby tests positive when he/she is born, you better believe that Social Services will be notified. If the mother doesn't have enough respect for her unborn child, just imagine what type of parent she is going to be. Here are the affects of smoking MJ while pregnant.

What happens when a pregnant woman smokes marijuana:

Marijuana crosses the placenta to your baby. Marijuana, like cigarette smoke, contains toxins that keep your baby from getting the proper supply of oxygen that he or she needs to grow.

How can marijuana affect the unborn baby:

Studies of marijuana in pregnancy are inconclusive because many women who smoke marijuana also use tobacco and alcohol. Smoking marijuana increases the levels of carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide in the blood, which reduces the oxygen supply to the baby. Smoking marijuana during pregnancy can increase the chance of miscarriage, low birth-weight, premature births, developmental delays, and behavioral and learning problems.

Smoking marijuana even once a month during pregnancy can cause you to have a dangerously fast labor, the baby could have learning disablilities and be small at birth. Also, some marijuana can have dangerous pesticides that cause severe birth defects. I have a friend that smoked pot every day throughout her whole pregnancy and her baby was born fine, but he could still develop learning disabililties later. She should really stop doing this.

Yes drugs can and will affect the baby. It is a proven fact that whatever you eat and drink the baby gets also. Same goes for if you are smoking anything. When the baby comes it is very possible that the baby will be addicted. Let your friend know that she really should stop because she is affecting her baby and is causing all kinds of problems for it.

The National Institute On Drug Abuse states:

Many substances including alcohol, nicotine, and drugs of abuse can have negative effects on the developing fetus because they are transferred to the fetus across the placenta. For example, nicotine has been connected with premature birth and low birth weight as has the use of cocaine.

Scientific studies have shown that babies born to marijuana users were shorter, weighed less, and had smaller head sizes than those born to mothers who did not use the drug. Smaller babies are more likely to develop health problems.

Whether a baby's health problems, if caused by a drug, will continue as the child grows, is not always known. Research does show that children born to mothers who used marijuana regularly during pregnancy may have trouble concentrating, even when older. NIDA research continues to produce insights on the negative effects of drug use on the fetus.

Yes it will without a doubt affect her baby. Usually signs won't develop until the baby becomes older. The kid will have mental problems and be depressed and most likely smoke weed.

Definitly... they have linked marijuana smoking to neurological defects and low birth weight in newborns. The full scope of the neuroligical defects may not even be seen at birth... things like developmental delays, ADD, and learning disorders. Small birth weight is usually as a result of IUGR (interuterine growth restriction) which can also have lasting effects. Your cousin is an idiot and I pray her child is born healthy.

The effects on the child could be anything from physical deformity to stunted mental development. Most likely, she will just have a below-average intelligence child and it may be more prone to problems like ADD or ADHD or ODD.

Regardless, this is horrific behavior. You should slap your cousin across the face the next time you see her. What kind of selfish, immature person would subject their unborn child to ANY kind of harm? PATHETIC. She does not deserve to have a child.

Yes any drug taken will affect the baby. That's totally irresponsible on her part. You need to make an anonymous phone call to her doctor and let them know so they can go ahead and test her now so they can take actions before she can take this child into an unfit home.
