Pay attention to the moments when you compare yourself to someone else, and remind yourself that you are one individual, and they are other individuals. You are one way and they are another. You can't expect to be the same.

First realize that everybody does it. That is how most people determine their confidence in themselves- what they think everyone else thinks of them and how they are better or worse than the next person in day to day activities.
You just have to catch yourself whenever you begin to do it and start to think of something else (that doesn't have to do with anybody else in comparison to yourself), It takes practice but will become very natural overtime (maybe a longer amount of time than shorter) if you keep at it.
Don't judge your confidence by looking at others and how they live their lives- be you and know your good qualities as well as you not so good ones. Be honest with yourself about yourself.
No one is even close to being perfect in any regard.

I don't think this is necessarily a bad thing. Role models are just a bar of self fullfilment that we would personally like to attain. Its human nature to be competitive and that can transend into how your family is raised, how funny people think you are, etc.

If I want to be a good businessman, I will compare myself to Jack Welch and what he did. If I want to be a good quarterback, I will study what makes Joe Montana so great.

One day I asked myself this question: Why the hell would God pick me out of all the millions of people he made to be inferior. I dont think he did, so I stopped thinking I was inferior, and I also stopped comparing myself to others.

I don't think you can. We use the comparison to help us find our various roles in relationships etc. How could we evaluate ourselves without that comparison?
Any way by comparing you can often feel so much better about yourself and your life!
