yes slavery happened it was wrong whatever, but im not paying for it with my taxes, black people are not the only people that this happend too,,, we might as well pay the indians off too for all the pain and suffering we caused them **** happens get over it, be real honest people, most of are tax dollars go to lower class families and most of them are black, sorry to say but its true,,, think about had we of not brought slaves over then black people would still be in africa and applying for visas to come here, and then you'd be bitching about them being here just as much as u do the mexicans.... the day i have to start paying reparations to black people is the day i start working for cash,,, WORK FOR WANT YOU WANT PEOPLE AND QUIT ASKING FOR HAND OUTS,,, i dont care what race you are.

That is a tough question. One only look at the treatment of slaves and the proof in history and how they suffered.
Human beings, the broken spirit and the separation of all family and everything you knew. To be treated like animals and whipped and chained. A human being sold into service of another human being - how can anyone doubt the seriousness of that?
They are deserving of reparations and I do not care where they come from. I am happy to pay my taxes into such a fund. I do not know about the higher taxes for Hispanics or Asians. It is not something I am familiar with.
Al I know is that racism must die and that American's are American's no matter if they are black, brown, red, yellow or white.
The sooner we learn that - the better off we will be as a Nation!
Let's also not forget about New Orleans - enough has gone to Iraq!
It's time to start rebuilding at home!
America first - foreign policy second!

I think that that is a bit overdue, but at the time blacks where set free, they should have gotten MUCH more than they did. Its like putting someone in prison, than letting them out when they are 80, because they really didn't commit the crime. However, black today do not deserve any reparations.

Take this any way you want, makes no never mind to me, but I was just at the bank, it's the first of the month and the welfare checks being cashed was unbelieveable. Looks like we are paying reparations to me. I don't intend to hurt anyones feelings or sound raciest, just stating FACTS. If you disagree presuade me differently. When my Fiance' sighned up for medicade to get an operation she was denied due to the COLOR of her skin. She was told this straight out and no it's not made up. She claimed discrimination and she was laughed at the same way the blacks in Mississippi sighned ineligable citizens to vote and prevented whites from voteing and threw away white write in votes, and when they were confronted with discrimination suit, they laughed and said " there has not been a history of this", thus concluding what they did was O K. What more do they want. In Atlanta firemen are given test based on their color so they can pass and move up in administration. What more? the list is tooo long. If you don't like this comment do what others do when hit with the truth and report me. If you really hate me now listen to this, I feel they should give them all 40 acres and a mule because the majority will use it for settlements to stay out of prison or trade it for a crack rock.

Here's the thing: It does not matter that you weren't around for slaverly. There are three strong points you should consider.
1st - Slavery still hurt people and don't people deserve to be righted after they were wronged? What would you say is the timeline for making people feel better after they have been beaten, raped, abused, and used? Remember slavery did not end that long ago.
2nd - There are still effects from slavery that exist today. To say something happened long ago is not a good excuse. Trauma is passed down from generation to generation. And please remember that Black people in this country by no means have equal rights. Until we can fix the ongoing consequences from what occured because of slavery then we have no right to say it happened long ago. What are we doing to stop those ongoing consequences?
3rd - Wouldn't you rather have your tax money go towards helping people vs. hurting people (war) or fattening government officials paychecks?
I'd like to see it happen or some movement be made to heal wrongs from the past and consequences that still exist today. But the state that our nation is in right now you probably have nothing to worry about.

i do not think reparations would be necessary. though so many people think slavery is so far ago, it really isnt. my grandfather can remember his grandmother who was the child of a slave. his grandmother told him stories all the time about living as sharecroppers and life being poor on a farm and my gramps is only 60. reparations would just cause to much confusion and debate. since 1865, there has been so much interracial mating there really cannot be a definite way to mandate which white person pays who and how much. furthermore, accepting money on behalf of my ancestors would be an insult. i do not feel it would be right. my life compared to theirs is the heaven they wished and prayed for. i dont struggle no where near they did. i wasnt whipped and tortured. raped, prohibited to read. referred to as animals. in all good conscious, how could i accept that money on their behalf? if the government wants to pay reparations, they should not disperse it to all blacks. that would be impossible since some blacks come from white familes, italian familes, have migrated from Africa and the Carribean etc. there is no way to tell which black familes are descendants of slaves unless personal family history is investigated which can take years. IF reparations were to be disbursed i would recommend donating the money to help all kids afford college. not just black kids, all kids. the government can take the billions of dollars meant for blacks and dump it in a created charity for poor families to apply for to get their kids to school. in one way or another, everyone has had some kind of harsh treatment inflicted on their ancestors. the indians, jews, Koreans. so on. blacks are not the only ones.

I believe this to be a tough issue for our country.
Had our country given every other group in this country the middle finger after they did them wrong, i.e. Japanease, German, Italians, etc this would probrably not be an issue. It would be difficult to give a respectable amount to 11% of your population without someone getting angry. Imagine if Southern White decendants of Civil War asked for reparations after the North stuck it to them once the war ended. They would be well within there right to ask since our country made so easy for other to cash in. I am not saying these other groups are not entitled, but if you do for one, you basically have to do for all.
Reparations for me would not be monetary. I would like to see our school system re-tooled, especially with regards to history. Our schools still teach know and acknowledged lies to our kids andn no one does anything about it. I would also becan teaching certain subjects such as law and medicine beginning in middle school and health care would be a no excuses guarantee.

Why bother asking!
In two more years we will all be slaves to the New World Order and will all be equal!
We will kneel before our new masters of a One World Government and a One World Bank
If you don't have the chip - you don't eat!
Any man who bares the mark will be eating at Satans table!
The problem is we haven't learned from anything in the past.
It just repeats in new ways over and over and over.
When the dollar collapses and becomes worthless we will all be fighting for food and a life!
Get used to Walmart - you will be spending a lot of time there unless you have miilions in gold or offshore accounts filled with Euro's..

There should be no reparations at all. The slaves were freed. Their descendents have nothing at all to do with slavery and the U.S. has apologized on numerous occasions. Money won't change what happened. It's history.

My ancestors got here after slavery ended and were mostly farmers. If I have to pay reparations for slavery, I demand reparations for the Germans who were held in camps during World War 2 by Roosevelt.
Germans also had their property confiscated by the U.S. Government, so I want a piece of that back also!

No, none of them that want reparations have ever been slaves. And it is not up to the government to pay back for what was done by individuals and businesses.
