Yes. According to this article http://www.hopkinschildrens.org/specialties/categorypages/intersex/sd2.html , up until 6 -7 weeks gestation, the female and male genitalia look identical. At around 8 - 9 weeks the male genitalia begins to develop and the sex of the fetus can be determined by external physical examination.

No , Either the DR. was lying or your friend was, I have been pregnant 5 times and the Gentile's dont develop that early, there is no way the Dr. could have known, And A good Question Did she have a sonogram? Thats the only way see in the first place and keep in mind at 3 months the fetus is only about the size as your palm.

The sex organs start to be developed at 12 weeks, if she was 3 months along yea they might have been able to wager a guess, but most times both girls and boys look the somewhat similar until 14 weeks, or there abouts. Mind you no doctor would have told her that, it's against all ethics... he would no way of wanted to jepordize his licence to even have made the assumption. She's lying.

YES. At 3 months the baby had all of its organs and body parts. After that it is just developing them and making them work. I don't believe the doctor was just making a random guess, he pretty much knew. It may have not be as developed as it would have been by 5 or 6 months.

Yes a Dr. that performs the abortion can tell the gender. Who really would want to know what the baby was though? That would just add more stress and anxiety to an already difficult situation.

usually, 5 months is when they know, but yes, there is a waty to actually test before 8 weeks of pregnacy, I dont know how, but I heard of that, and also that kind of test is not in the market yet because of controvery, some say it will make peopel think 2x before aborting, others say it will ead to more abortions b/c you find out if your getting the sex that you want early enough to abort...I dont know how the doc found out, maybe there was a showing of a penis that would not have been picked up by ultrasound, that was visiable in the fetus

Unless the doctor actually saw the fetus when he did the abortion, no he cannot just predict what it was. Your friend is lying.

They usually do an ultrasound around 16 weeks, but can often tell a couple of weeks earlier than that. Also, if she had an amniocentesis, they can tell MUCH earlier.
