my temp. is always around 97.5 unless I've already ovulated and it's around 98.2 then. I was suppose to ovulate on Jan 31st. I didn't get the eggwhite stretchy discharge yet so I'm sure I haven't ovulated, but this morning my temp was 95.8. It's never been that low. What would be the reason?

A substantial dip in temperature usually means that you're about to ovulate - and that could be the case for you, even in the absence of eggwhite cervical mucous. (Some foods and medications affect the quality and quantity, so don't assume that you're not ovulating based on that alone.) If your temperature is back up to normal levels tomorrow, chances are good you've ovulated.

Low basal temps can be caused by environmental factors, too - if you didn't get as much sleep as usual (especially if you didn't get six uninterrupted hours before taking your temperature), or if you slept with your mouth open. With all the colds going around this time of year, that is wreaking havoc with my chart! ;) I believe that drinking alcohol can affect your temperature as well.

Best of luck to you!

(Edited to add, in response to the last answer, your temperature does not fall with more sleep than usual. On the contrary, it rises about .5 degree with each additional thirty minutes of sleep. Not sleeping long enough would cause it to be lower than normal.)

Sometimes your temp will the day before you ovulate. When you are pregnant there is also sometimes an "implantation dip" in with the fertilized egg attaches but since you so said you have not ovulated yet I am sure it is not that. I would guess that you are either ovulating or about to.

Did you take it at the same time? The temp will fall about a degree every 30 minutes.
