I've been waiting to get in to see my gyno for a long time. I just started my period on Monday and I have an appointment on Friday. Will my test be accurate? Is it rude of me to go to my appointment while on my period?

The doctor won't want to perform a pap smear while you are on your period. This is because the cells that are normally contained in your uterus are released during your period... while this is all fine and normal, the presence of these cells throws off the test results, as having them around when you aren't bleeding can indicate a problem. If you aren't having a pap, it's not "rude", per se, but you should mention to the doc that you are on your period.

If it's hard to get an appointment with your doctor, call up the office and see if it is okay to have your pap during your period or if they can't reschedule you for sometime after your period is over. They won't mind... this is definitely not the first time this has happened at their office.

It depends on the flow of your cycle, it you are almost done and just slight spotting it's really no big deal. Gyno's see blood all the time. If it's for your pap smear some doctors say if it's slight spotting its ok. If it's a flow... definitly a now. Only because this can cause the test results to come back with inflammation and some irregular cells.

Just to be sure call them and ask, let them know where you are in your cycle and let them know ... you know if you'll be spotting or not. If you're a heavy bleeder then wait. If it's just for a pelvic for something else, I wouldn't worry about it. A pelvic exam and a pap smear are different. A pap smear they actually take a sample of the cells around the cervic and the vaginal walls. A pelvic they just feel the uterus, ovaries. So I don't know what you are going for. Just call them and ask.

The answer to our question is No. I know you have been waiting awhile but when you bleed from your period you sluff cells off of your cervix. Those are the cells the Dr. is wanting to test. Also never douche or have sex the night before for the same reason. It would be best if you called the office and tell them to reschedule for another day in the near future since you have been waiting forever.

If you are having a pap smear they will ask you to reschedule. When in doubt call the office and talk to them.

If your getting a physical then no, you can't and they won't do it. You will have to re schedule.
