If you don't want what you have then you don't have what you want. The problem is many people don't know what they want. They think that they do until they get it & then realize that they don't feel any better. The key is that what you really need is to love yourself, to accept who you are & to be happy with your life. Once you have this, you don't need anything else. If you don't have this then you will go your whole life trying to fill a void that can never be filled: it won't be filled with the love of others, with success, with money or fame or success. If you don't love yourself then you will always feel empty. Nothing will be good enough. Nothing will make you happy. You will keep greedily acquiring things thinking that each one will make you happy & when it doesn't you'll yearn for the next thing & the next. Some people live their entire lives this way. A lot of wealthy people who seem like they have everything & can afford anything are still unhappy because all the money in the world won't help if you hate yourself. You'll just have more cash to get into trouble & destroy yourself with (via pricey drugs & alcohol). Sadly this happens to a lot of celebrities...
So there you are. Love yourself. That's the best way to contentment. Then everything else is gravy. Easier said than done I know. I'm still struggling with it. Working on the old self-esteem...

Imagine what life would be like if you were totally content with everything you have. You would never be looking for something to make you happy, and so there would be no point in living. You would have already reached your peak.

IF you are never content with what you have then why have it? Be content to have nothing and anything you do acquire will seem priceless.
Besides, who wants to lead a life of discontentment? It doesn't leave much for you to be happy about.

The sin of lust.
Phillipians 4:11 Not that I speak from want, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am....I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Because there's no point in living if you are content with everything you have. There is no drive, no ambition, no hope for the future. History favors those who brought change and forgets the ones who were happy with things the way they were.

I think most of us are not content with what we have because we haven't seen the worst that can happen. So we always want more than we have. But if you have seen or experienced worse than you have, you want it to change to the greater good in your life.

Until we are known to ourselves, and truly pursuing happiness (not in vain), we won't be content. We think other materials or things that make other people happy, will make us happy. Thus we try to get those things for happiness, in total vain! If ever a pure happiness and love could exist, those pursuing it will be content.

I am not content either, because nobody is stopping or slowing down for me to catch up. In this voracious society, you work to either win or remain forever in damnation, always holding second fiddle to others. You do not let-up the next guy, when he hold you by the rein---“ hold your horses, I am tired and need resting “ What would you have done?

Evolution. Those who are content will not work as hard to better themselves whereas those who aren't will work harder to fix the problem and make themselves content. That makes them more likely to survive.

Because, as the saying goes, "Variety is the spice of life." And yet many would agree that we would be truly blessed if we are content with what we have.
