Thanks for asking. I was curious for myself. I did an estimate for myself and it came to $15.51 an hour in the state of Washington.

Depends upon where the garden is located, how experienced he is, how experienced the one paying the gardener is, how big the area gardened, how often the gardening is to be done, time of the year, and who the Gardener is.

Small garden, attended once and a while, dumb garden owner, dumb - inexperienced - hack and slash, pick-up the trash people-person/non-real-gardener who lives in a cardboard box with 6 other "gardeners" who become quite flighty anytime someone dressed in a green uniform comes near, in Texas or Arizona, and in the winter; probably will accept a dollar an hour until summer rolls around in Michigan and he's gone because he can make $15/hr sweeping out Walmart there.

At the other end of the scale there is real gardener who lives on an estate with his family, is engaged in strictly on-site, dedicated full-time landscape environment cultural activities, full-time with 401K, medical insurance, 2 week paid vacation/year, estate vehicle furnished for professional and private use, and has a college degree in Agriculture/horticulture; 35 to 70K/yr.
