The way you can find the inverse function is if you replace "x" by "y" and vice versa.

Example:
Normal function:
y = 7x + 7
Replace x and y:
(x) = 7(y) + 7
(x-7) = 7y
y = (x - 7) / 7

In this case:
y = 1 / x
Inverse function:
(x) = 1 / (y)
yx = 1

y = 1 / x

The inverse function for this function is the same.

the inverse function of y=1/x is:
y^-1 or 1/y =1/(1/x)=1*x/1
then,
y^-1=1/y=x

This is how you do it... Ive just learnt it, and dont ask why...

1) Take whatever the function is and make it y= something in terms of x
2) Wherever there is x, just rub it out and make it a y. Where there is a y rub it out and make it x now
3) Rearrange to y=
4) Thats the answer!

This is demonstrated below:

f(x) = 1/x
y = 1/x
x = 1/y
y = 1/x

Inverse function of it is 1/x

Multiply x from both sides:
xy=1

Divide y from both sides:
x=1/y
