Vernon Wells has hit over 30 home runs twice in one season (career high is 33).
He has batted over .300 twice in a full season (career high .317)
Has stolen more than 10 bags a year once (17)
Over 100 RBIs 3 times, over 100 Rs once.
Career on base percentage - .336
He will continue to win gold gloves as he's amazing on defense.

He's young, only 28, and the blue jays will have him till he's 35 before his numbers drop off too much. Now I'm not the kind of person who feels players are vastly overpaid, because if the market is set at a certain value then they should make something around there. But if you compare him to Alfonso Soriano who is making $10 million more overall, Soriano is just extremely better everywhere but on defense (he's hit more than Well's high in HR - 4 times).

Wells would be worth more around a 5 year deal - $75 million.

Obviously he is showing that he is one of the worst. But Ricciardi wasn't a knucklehead for giving it to him. His first 5 full season (02-05) He averaged - .264/27HR/97 in those 5 years. He was also a 3 time Gold Glove award winner, and hit .300 2 times. Being a pretty top run producer, and the best the Jays seen(especiall since Wells had a great contract year) their was no doubt he would be looking for the big money. It just injuries have kept him from doing what he can do. If he goes back to old form for the remaining 4 years, it just may be all worth it.

Vernon Wells is the backcone of that team. He and Roy Halladay have been there longer, and done more for the team than anyone who has been through Toronto cince their rookie year, 1997. When healthy, Wells is worth it. A consistant hitter with gap and HR power that can steal bases and play a GoldGlove centerfield. Wells is the straw that stirs the drink in Toronto. The guns that they've hired in BlueJay country (Glaus and Overbay among them) haven't put up the numbers that Wells has put up when he is healthy. I say that, if he stays healthy for the duration of the contract, that Wells is worth the money.

I don't think any player is worth that. Vernon is a very good player, but not 126 million good.

i don't agree with those who say no player is worth that kind of money....that argument is now irrelevant. arod unfortunately set the standard at 250 million. that being the case, wells is worth 126 million. heck pujols is worth 300 million under the current salary structure!!!!

He's worth more than that. I'm still amazed that he stayed in Toronto, he couldv'e made more money than that testing free agency. As a Sox fan, I'm upset we'll have to face him 19 times a year for 7 more years.

it depends on whether or not he puts up the stats and helps the blue jays overtake the yanks and sox. if he gets pitches to hit hitting behind frank thomas, then he will be a bargain. hopefully he will earn his keep and the jays become a contender. although im a lifelong yanks fan, i wanna see new blood.

Oh god no, the Blue Jays have more important things to worry about, like good fourth and fifth pitchers.
