There were some especially bad tornadoes with loss of life and much destruction in Michigan in 1956. I even saw one. I was eight. I have never forgotten it.

Try looking up information by type of disaster. I did a search on "hurricane history" and found several hurricanes in the 50s. Also try earthquakes, floods, tornadoes, etc.
