red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet

Some people say indigo as well but indigo is actually a tertiary color. The actual color spectrum (rainbow) consists only of primary and secondary colors. Primary colors are colors that are not the result of two other colors being mixed together (red, blue, yellow). Secondary colors result from the mixture of two primary colors (i.e., green, orange, and violet). Tertiary colors, like indigo, result from mixing a primary color (blue) and a secondary color (violet).

A rainbow contains all visible colors (assuming that it isn't distorted by clouds, etc.) A mnemonic for the order of the colors is: ROY G BIV (Red Orange Yellow Green Blue Indigo Violet)

Remember ROY G Biv. Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, and Violet. You may be able to find some gold at the end of the rainbow.

people can pick up 10 million colors with their human eyeballs, these colors are represented in the color spectrum which IS a rainbow, so technically you are looking at 10 million colors when you stare at a rainbow

I agree with Katy except for one little error - the primary colours are actually Red Green Blue.

The secondary colours are Yellow Cyan Magenta

Red + Green = Yellow
Red + Blue = Magenta
Blue + Green = Cyan
