Showing respect for others is simple etiquette. It fosters a team mentality knowing that each individuals efforts are valued and differing opinions are not cause for tension. When each individual is respected they will give their best efforts to the group, diverse approaches create the best results. If someone is belittled for their position on a topic they will be slow to present their opinion in the future making any collaboration faulty at the onset.

For example if you don't treat the janitor with respect he/she may not empty your trash.

Dissing others will cause them to not like you or take revenge. You need good working relationships to succeed.

The golden rule works: do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Don't you want respect? How can you expect to get it if you don't give it.

In commerce, showing respect for your customer means you show you value his business. By showing respect you indicate to the customer "You are important to me" and the customer will return to you for more work.

So, by working with respect for others, you will generate work for yourself as well.

(simplest example i could think of)
