Bill's 14 Line Poem
-----------------------
I wrote this rhyme for English class,
If I don't then I won't pass,
It's got a pretty catchy theme
And a straightforward rhyme scheme.
The length is absolutely fine
It ends after the fourteenth line,
Awesome! Wow! I'm halfway there
(This is the seventh and eighth line pair),
I don't know what to say right now
There's words the teacher won't allow,
Words I dare not even mention
So that I will not get detention,
Tata, goodbye, it's been real fun,
Line 14 and now I'm done.

Find one that you like, one that tells a story that you can kind of see in your head. Start with the first line, and repeat it until you know it. Then go on to the next line, practice the first and second lines together until you have them down pat. Then just continue, adding one line at a time, keeping the story in your mind to help you remember what comes next. This is the trick I used in school, hope it helps!

Look up Shakespear's sonnet. A sonnet by definition has 14 lines. Lots of them are very popular and you probably know a few lines of one or two already.

Cant go wrong with Shakespeare. Also, Edgar Allan Poe wrote quite a few shorter poems, so you might be able to find one of his you like if that's more your cup of tea.
