Unfortunately, the sleeplessness, like morning sickness, just comes with the territory and there isn't much you can do.

In the 1st trimester, it's because of your hormones going haywire adjusting to all these new changes. It starts to settle down in the 2nd trimester and you will get some decent night's sleep until you hit the 3rd trimester when you can't sleep again because of being uncomfortable in just about every position.

If this is where you are, then I second the motion of trying a body pillow... or even a regular pillow between your knees while laying on your side. That helped me some, but not a whole lot.

I've also heard that sleeping in a recliner chair is also one of the more comfortable positions... but I didn't have one when I was pregnant, so I can't speak from experience on that.

Try getting a body pillow and sleeping with it behind your back for support and another one in front. That should help with some of the discomfort. Also put one between you thighs. They are spreading and this helps A LOT.
If you are having insomnia I'm not sure what to do . As your pregnancy advances you will get more and more tired. So much so that all you will want to do is sleep. So do when you can. Because after the baby comes you will not sleep again until they graduate. And even then it will be hard.
Good luck and Congrats!

My doctor recommends Benadryl to help me sleep, I try to only take it one night a week. I recently bought a Snoogle body pillow at BabiesRUs and it is the best $50 I have ever spent. Besides those tips I don't know what to tell you. My approved drug list from my doctor says that Unisom sleep tabs are safe too. But I did not take any pill in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy.

Just one of the joys of pregnancy hun! I will be 8 weeks on Saturday and I toss and turn ALL night! I guess it's a step up from being wide awake at 4 am though!

All I can suggest is getting yourself a body pillow and wedging it between your legs and sleeping on your left side.

Good luck!

I bought a body pillow, and used it to prop up my belly to keep me laying on my side.

Drink warm milk before you go to bed.

Talk to your doctor before you use any herb teas, they are supposed to help you sleep but some herbs are said to be dangerous to unborn children.

Some people also sleep better if they have a white noise maker, it makes noise like waves on a beach, which drowns out bad noise and soothes you as well.

Reading in bed also helps me.

A hot bath and a small glass of wine will help. My doctor recommended it. One SMALL glass of wine does not hurt you or the baby.
