My Canon ip4300 uses the 5PGBK and the 8BK cartridges, both black. I don't really care that one is "more black" or whatever the difference is. The 5PGBK tank is low and the other one hasn't been touched, so obviously it's been printing from only the one tank. How do I get the printer to utilize the other tank? The Preferences and Help files of course have been no help...

OK, that helps to clarify. Is there a way I can tell the printer to use the photo black instead of the everyday black? It does a very nice job, but I don't do much glossy/photo work.

The 5PGBK is your everyday text black. The 8BK one is your photo black (makes a big difference when printing on photo paper).

The printer automatically chooses which is needed depending on what you are printing.

They are great printers. Sometime print a picture on photo paper you'll be amazed at the quality that machine can print!

you may not set up 2 black cartridges on it. it won't in fantastic condition or artwork. you're purely going to wreck you printer in case you probably did. in case you recognize that your printer is barely applying the black cartridge, your incorrect. The printer additionally makes use of a speck of coloured ink to grant or print a black output.
