In central NJ, close to exit 117 off GS Parkway, I pay 1100/ mo rent for a 3 bedroom house with a front and back yard. Not very big but cheaper that most other places with the same ammenities.
If you are looking for something cheaper and don't want to move far, just watch the newspaper for a while and call everything you see. It took me almost six months to find rent this cheap for this area, but it was worth it.
Other wise, Jersey sucks.

In NH it depends on the town/city you live in. Milford, Nashua, Manchester average $1000-$1400 but Concord, Hillsboro, Peterborough average $600-$800 and in northern NH like Colebrook, Pittsburgh landlords are practically begging people to move in for $400 a month including all utilities. As with most things it depends on how rural the area is and how many jobs are available.

Lithonia, Ga
Anywhere between $650 to $1000 a month for a 2 BR. Of course the nicer the area, the more pricey the apartment will be.

A great resource is your local grocery store. You know right where you walk in they have the rack with all the free periodicals. There should be one for those seeking to rent. Also check your local paper under the appropriate classified column. I live on the west coast and it can range from $800-$1600 depending on location and proximity to malls/grocery stores/schools, etc.
