I am looking for a container that is waterproof for storage outdoors.

Depends on how big you want. You could just get some plan jane storage bins, with the contents in plastic trash bags, or yeah, even space bags. What ruins the container are the effects of Sun and UV damage.
If you wanna go a different direction, get heavy duty plastic barrels with sealable lids. Those will last forever, but are a bit pricier. I guess it depends on how long it will be outside, and what the contents are.

Army surplus stores have every kind of waterproof/chemicalproof containers you could image. Otherwie whats so difficult? Heard of tupperware?
