Dont get her anything that everyone will give to each other, e.g. flowers, chocolate, everyone gets that, it gets boring.
Try getting something personal, maybe take her out to the place where you first had your date or first met and give her something thats personal to you and her e.g if she talked about childhood favorites, try get them and make her happy like that.
If you dont live with her, key to your house/flat could be a good idea?

It depends on the lenght of involvement and your budget.
Jewelry is always a hit, as is chocolate an roses. If you can afford it, all three would really be fantastic.
If you cook, you might bake her brownines with white chocolate frosting or chocolate. Of course, a nice take away meal is also a good addition that will give you more alone time.
Otherwise Standard things:
CD, DVD, perfume, bath things, lotions, and a host of other ideas that perhaps others will or have listed.
The most simple and nearly guaranteed hit is to combine sweets and flowers with something that she wanted for Christmas or her birthday, but didn't recieve.
I hope this helps a bit.

The best present I ever received was a heart shaped wooden box, painted red with a picture of on the top and wooden hearts painted pink all around the outside. Inside there was confetti shaped hearts with Hersey Kisses. On the tabs of the candies, he had made personalized notes about all the things he loved about me. So everytime I opened a candy I got to read one of the reasons why he loved me sooo much!

Basically what I'm doing is that I'm giving him a memory box with some stuff I put together for him. I also made him a really nice card with a heartfelt poem that I wrote. I made him a poem book with pictures I have taken as well. : } And don't forget the CD with random videos I took of us and a slideshow of pictures from the past 2 years. I'm doing all this stuff because Valentine's is our first anniversary. ♥
Well, I found this great website that has a lot of ideas that people sent in. A lot of great ideas... cheap, creative, sweet. So if you need other ideas, here you go: http://scripts.lovingyou.com/mdb/search....
It helped me come up with some ideas and stuff.
Check it out!

A single rose, a dinner or picnic lunch prepared by you (or made to look that way), and the day of complete and undivided attention.
If she seems dismayed or angry at the absence of gold or jewels, run away as quickly as possible and find a woman interested in you and not shiny baubles.
The exception would be a locket or charm with your name prominantly engraved upon it.

Flowers, chocolates, or you could find a picture of the pair of you and put it in a frame, (shows you've thought about it) balloons, teddy bears, or a nice evening out!

A half hour flying lesson at Wolverhampton airport, you really do get to fly the aircraft. Even if she dumps you later on she will never forget your gift.
