It is not impossible. Mythbusters did this. They put together a football-field sized piece of paper and folded it more than seven times. The guy above said 8, but I believe it was more like 11 times (with the help of a forklift). Episode 72.

There are limits to practically everything. I saw this on Myth Busters (Discovery Channel). It didn't matter what size paper was used, 7 was still the limit. One sheet of paper they used was the size of an airplane hangar.

Because what matters, in terms of folding, isn't the size, it's the thickness of what you're trying to fold. Every time you fold something, its thickness doubles. At some point, it's going to become too thick to fold.
