I have a 2001 Grand Cherokee and for about 3-4 wks there has been a noise coming from the hatch when locking/unlockig the doors. They work fine but the noise sounds awful. It sounds as if a battery is dying or dragging. What can cause this and is it expensive to fix? Thanks in advance.

Sounds like the actuator and nothing that $125.00 won't fix.

Chryslers use a motor instead of solenoid on the lock actuators. When the gears go out in an actuator it makes a buzzy kind of noise when locking/unlocking the doors. That sounds like what your GC is doing. Around $100-$150 to have a dealer fix it, shop price because some dealers discount parts to everyone. A local shop here will go 10-20% off on the parts.

it could be the motor for the lock. If done at a dealership it can be quite pricey.
