We as a nation can do it very simply and thoroughly, if we decide that we have the stomach to do what is absolutely necessary.

There are not a set number of terrorists in the world, therefore you cannot just kill all of them and suddenly there will be no terrorism. This isn't a battle against an army, it's a battle against a method. People shouldn't so much be considered "terrorists" as they should be considered people willing to use terrorism. The way to eliminate terrorism is to eliminate the need for it. People who resort to terrorism are people who feel that they have no other way to affect change in their lives, so they lash out violently. As long as there are people in this world who are oppressed in some way, and have no means to affect their situation by using political and social action, then they will resort to terrorism.
Terrorism is more than just Islamic fundamentalists who hate western cultures. It's the IRA fighting the British, the Pro-lifers bombing abortion clinics, PETA setting fire to animal testing facilities, and (depending on your viewpoint) America dropping the MOAB into the Iraqi desert. Anytime some group or person uses violence to affect change in their opponent, it is terrorism.

Terrorism in one form or another has existed for centuries. Generally the terrorism is defeated when they win or when people are vigilant and awake to what the terrorists are up to. They do not like to be caught and exposed. Find out why they are doing what they do and try to work with them. Maybe there is some common ground where both sides are happy. The reason people resort to terrorism is they are desperate nothing else seems to work for them.
If nothing else we will never and have never eliminated terrorists but we can work to contain them so they do little or no harm.

Unlike any other war in America’s history in which our enemy was clearly defined under the flag of a particular country, the war on terror is quite unique. We did not invade Iraq as retribution for 9-11, nor did we engage in this war to fight terrorism. Only recently have we shifted our emphasis and labeled it “a war on terror”. We are fighting an ambiguous enemy. While the Shiites and Sunnis fiercely try to annihilate one another, our troops are caught in the middle.
Islamic extremists literally live in every country in the world, including America. The terrorists we’re fighting in Iraq represent a small percentage of the whole. Consequently, our military presence in Iraq does not in any way prevent or discourage other terrorists’ activities or plots elsewhere in the world.
Terrorism can only be fought with strategic police work. America must pool their resources and highly-sophisticated tools used by the FBI and CIA and network this information with other similar police agencies worldwide. Through a cooperative effort, we could strategically overcome terrorism in two ways. First we could locate and eliminate sleeper cells. Second, we could cut their money supply. Their funds are not hidden in caves; they’re sitting in banks around the world. We have the global technology to locate their funds, freeze their accounts and choke off their blood money. Without money they cannot operate. Bullets will never end nor prevent terrorism; police work will.

you can't completely eradicate it... but you can do things to help..
and I think it starts with taking out the leaders... there are terrorist organizations that are CLEARLY more successful and more effective than others...
you strike the leadership that is the key to the effectiveness (the leaders know how to strike and have many years of experience and connections than your average terrorist... 1,000 times as dangerous)... then it severely weakens their abilities...
let's use football for example... certain teams are better than others because they have success... but there are clearly certain people that are keys to that success...
so, take the colts... if you get rid of Peyton manning... are they going to be nearly as good? no where even close... still solid, but not nearly as good... taking him off the team severely effects the ability of the team to be effective on the field... taking him away even hurts the morale of the team...
now look at BY FAR the most successful terrorist organization over the past 15 years... al-queda... Osama has clearly been the face of it... a key planner, key source for funding because of his resources and a morale booster... he is their peyton manning...
now if we kill him will it end terrorism? of course not... but if we kill him I think it would DEFINITELY curtail their ability to be effective, plan attacks and gain funding... resulting in a much lower level threat than before...
killing average "joe terrorist" in Iraq would be like the colts losing a third string guard on their bench... they don't like losing him, but it doesn't make them any less effective because they have other guys that could step in and basically do the exact same job with almost the exact same quality...
there are VERY FEW terrorists that have Osamas experience, connections and presence in the middle east... in fact, I would say there are no other terrorists that do...
so... do you want to focus on taking out the third string punter of the terrorists... or do you want to take out their "Peyton manning"?

We don't - Terrorism to human beings is as natural as human beings loving everyone no matter what the color, sex, education, class or status is.
We are not born as Terrorists - just like we are not born to love other people!
For the most part Terrorists are created - just like what Bush has done since he invaded Iraq which had nothing to do with the WTC, had no WMDs, and was not a threat to the United States in any way, shape, and form!

2) Pull all US troops out of the Mideast, forever.
3) Give the Palestinians their own country in the West bank
4) Cut US oil intake in half
5) Make Saudi Arabia break up the Wahhabi terrorist schools in their country.
6) Give more money to build up US Special forces & US intelligence agencies.
7) Try to rebuild every relationship that Bush ruined with countries around the world that can help us in the war on terror.

Stop governments from funding it, like america, britian, pakistan, israel etc. If you study how terrorism was used years ago, you'll find that governments run the operation and fund it. They have drills on the same day of the attack, like on 9/11 and 7/7 in london. watch terrorstorm and learn the history of govt. sponsored terrorism.

First of all, we must learn about those who wish to terrorize us. We must understand their culture, their motivation, and what they really want. For example, are they merely psychopaths who enjoy making people suffer? If so, they must be handled differently than those who feel they have a grievance with the US. I know some will say "Blow 'em all up!" but that will not solve the problem of recruitment, especially for those who feel aggrieved. In fact, a ham-handed approach will, more than likely, make it easier to recruit more to the ranks.
If we study and learn about terrorists, we can exploit differences between members of their ranks to discredit leaders and cause factions to splinter off. If there are perceived grievences that are really a result of propaganda, we can counter the misinformation in ways that will hit home with those who are likely recruits.
The key here is to truly know and understand the enemy.

Terrorism cannot be eradicated...it has always existed, in one form or another, and sadly, always will.
Education and understanding and firm stands will help to protect ourselves from it.
