There's nothing wrong with it. Your maid of honor should be your best friend and if its a male, then that should be no problem. The only thing is that I would not call him the maid of honor, I would probably call him the gentleman of honor.

If a male is your best friend...then it's appropriate...however he would be an honor attendant not a maid of honor (maid/maiden refers to female)
